Why did Doggy Do Good discontinue the Certified Home Compostable bags?
Our home-compostable bags were made from plant-based materials and needed specific composting conditions to decompose; only a tiny number of industrial composters accept pet waste, so most bags still ended up in landfill. Customers also told us that the compostable bags sometimes decomposed prematurely in storage and didn’t perform well when exposed to heat or moisture. We spent two years developing our Landfill-Friendly bags using 50 % post-consumer recycled plastic and an Eco-Accelerated™ formula; this drastically reduces the lifespan of plastic in landfills from 500 years to less than five years. By moving to Landfill-Friendly bags, we ensure that each bag is consumed by microbes in regular landfill conditions instead of relying on rare composting facilities.
How is a Landfill-Friendly bag different from a compostable bag?
Compostable bags are typically made from 100% plant-based materials and are designed to decompose in properly managed composting facilities. However, very few composters accept pet waste, and when compostable bags end up in landfills — which is where almost all pet waste goes — they fail to decompose properly. Instead, they persist much like traditional plastic.
Landfill-Friendly bags are engineered specifically for real-world disposal. They are made with a blend of 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and 15% bio-based starches, plus an Eco-Accelerated™ additive that attracts microbes in oxygen-free landfill environments. This allows the plastic to be consumed by microbes much faster than conventional bags, while still being strong, leak-proof, and durable. Unlike compostable bags, Landfill-Friendly bags are designed for landfills and should always be disposed of in the trash.
Why did you choose to make Landfill-Friendly bags using recycled plastic?
Plastic recycling rates are very low—only about 9 % of plastic is recycled annually—so we decided to reuse waste plastic. Using 50 % post-consumer recycled plastic reduces demand for new plastic and provides a durable, leak-proof bag. The Eco-Accelerated additive creates chemical signals that attract microbes and expand the plastic polymer so microbes can consume it.
Are Landfill-Friendly bags certified or tested?
Yes. Landfill-Friendly bags have been independently certified in landfill conditions and tested to ASTM 5511 standards by Intertek. Our Eco-Accelerated™ formula is powered by Plasgreen, an organic additive that meets FDA, toy safety, EU REACH and RoHS requirements.
Will these bags leave microplastics?
No. Unlike traditional plastics that photodegrade or bags made with oxo-additives, our Landfill-Friendly bags accelerate microbial decomposition without fragmenting into microplastics or causing harmful residues.
How long does it take a Landfill-Friendly bag to decompose?

Is a Landfill-Friendly bag a bioplastic or compostable?
Landfill-Friendly bags are not considered a “bioplastic” or a certified compostable product. They are made with a blend of 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and 15% biobased components such as plant starches, combined with an Eco-Accelerated™ additive. This formula allows microbes in oxygen-free landfills to consume the bag much faster than conventional plastic, while still offering the durability and leak-proof performance of traditional bags. Because they do not fully decompose under typical composting conditions, they should not be marketed or used as compostable bags.
How should I dispose of a Landfill-Friendly bag?
Place used bags in your regular trash destined for landfills. Landfill-Friendly bags are engineered to decompose in landfills, so they should not be composted or recycled. Please do not flush them or leave them in the environment.
How should I store Landfill-Friendly bags?
Store them like any traditional plastic bag; they will not begin to decompose until they reach an oxygen-free, microbe-rich environment such as a landfill. Unlike compostable bags, Landfill-Friendly bags have an unlimited shelf life.
Do Landfill-Friendly bags still offer leak-proof performance and odor control?
Yes. The bags are designed to be 100 % leak-proof and durable while being easy on the planet. Their extra thickness ensures that smells and moisture stay contained. They maintain strength, texture and durability during use, and we offer a no hassle, money-back guarantee.
Will these bags decompose during a walk?
No. Landfill-Friendly bags are formulated to assist micro-organisms in consuming the plastic in anaerobic, microbe-rich environments such as landfills. Their formulation does not affect strength, texture, durability or appearance.
What remains after decomposition?
When microbes consume the plastic, they convert it to humus, carbon dioxide and methane. Carbon dioxide and methane produced through this process are often captured by landfills and turned into bioenergy.
If this technology is so good, why isn’t everyone using it?
This is a new additive and new technology takes time to be adopted. Earlier oxo-degradation technology created confusion and outdated regulations. As the benefits of Plasgreen in products like Landfill-Friendly bags are understood by communities, regulators and manufacturers, adoption should increase.
